Why Go Fishing in Gulf Shores During Fall?

Cooler temperatures mean fish move throughout the region, which, depending on the day and time of season, can create great opportunities to find many different species. The exact type will depend on the month, weather, and water conditions. Common catches in the fall may include Spanish mackerel, king mackerel, redfish, and flounder.
Fall Weather in Gulf Shores
Fall weather changes considerably from September through November. September has an average high of 85.4 degrees, a low of 73.8 degrees, and an average Gulf water temperature of 81 degrees. October averages a high of 77.5 degrees, a low of 64.8 degrees, and a water temperature of 74 degrees. This makes it an especially comfortable season for a long morning outside along the shore, giving you more time to enjoy the catch.
Where to Go Fishing in Gulf Shores
Gulf Shores is home to plenty of piers, shorelines, and beaches that are all great spots to cast a line for your next catch.
Gulf State Park

The Gulf State Park Fishing and Education Pier is one of the easiest places to start. The pier extends anglers beyond the surf without requiring a boat, opening access to several depths and fish habitats. Possible fall catches include Spanish and king mackerel, bluefish, whiting, redfish, speckled trout, and flounder.
The pier is open 24 hours a day and includes covered seating, accessible rail fishing, comfort stations, and an indoor shop. Fishing and parking fees apply. Sunrise and sunset offer comfortable temperatures and low-light conditions.
Little Lagoon
Little Lagoon offers an alternative to the open Gulf. At Little Lagoon Pass Park, moving water around the pass can attract bait and feeding fish. The park has parking, restrooms, showers, and beach access.
Gulf Shores Public Beach
Grab a spot directly by the shore for miles of open shoreline. The beachfront location makes it very convenient to walk upon the shore. It's important to know that while surf fishing is allowed, it is prohibited at Gulf Place. Many visitors to the beach like to plant their rod in the sand as they wait for their catches, which can include speckled trout and whiting in this area.
Fort Morgan Fishing Pier

Fort Morgan Fishing Pier sits near the mouth of Mobile Bay. Its protected water can be useful when open-beach fishing is difficult. Catches may include white trout, ground mullet, redfish, speckled trout, and flounder.
