Think Beach Thoughts: Spring in Gulf Shores

Now that it is cooler and the time of year for early sunsets, warm cider, and bonfires, we thin-blooded Southerners start thinking ahead to Spring. While the next few months bring shorter days, we are neck-deep in school activities and holiday preparations, but we'll be dreaming of longer days and the return of bathing suit weather in Spring.

Thanksgiving break gives everyone a moment to sit down together and talk about where you want to go. This is the perfect time to start planning your spring vacation. Whether you are traveling with family or with friends, if you haven't made your plans, now is the time! We still have beach homes open the weeks before and during Easter, but those are going fast. If you are lucky enough to be able to travel other dates from March through May, there are some great options available to you.

Have the Best Spring Break in Gulf Shores

Spring isn't necessarily full-on, hot-every-minute weather, but it is usually a great time to be outside. You'll want some beach time, but there are also lots of other things to do in our area.

Here are some of our recommendations for things to do in Gulf Shores in spring!

Explore History and Nature in Gulf Shores

Whether we are traveling with our children or not, we usually try to learn something when we travel. Here you have both great history and nature options. On the History side, historic Fort Morgan is a great option as the site of the Battle of Mobile Bay ("Damn the torpedos, full-speed ahead"). It has elements that range from the Civil War through WWII. The National Naval Air Museum has a phenomenal collection of aircraft along with Blue Angels Practices on Tuesdays & Wednesdays from late March throughout April and May. We think you'll like it even if you aren't into history or aviation--just go check it out and call us if we are wrong on this. The Gulf State Park Education Center is another great place to explore and learn, as is the Dauphin Island Sea Lab (and you get to ride the Mobile Bay Ferry to get there).

Beach Town Attractions

If beach town attractions are more your thing, we've got them! Mini-golf, go carts (you have to ride the Woody at The Track), and Alligator Alley are all here for you. We also have the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo that is nationally known for white tigers and the new OWA amusement & entertainment park.

Golf Gulf Shores

With 11 signature courses in our area, including 5 that are within 5-20 minutes of our beach houses, we have some really great golfing in Gulf Shores. Those include Craft Farms, the Gulf Shores Golf Club, the Gulf State Park's Refuge Golf Club, Kiva Dunes, and Peninsula.

Get Out On The Water

Between dolphin cruises, fishing charters, paddle boarding and kayaks, you have the whole range of exciting to relaxing water activities in Gulf Shores. Don't forget parasailing! Our cousins parasailed on their last trip here and LOVED it. We even have homes with piers right on Little Lagoon, so you can bring your own water toys.

Feast on Fresh Seafood and Local Produce

If you like to cook at home, we have some great kitchens for gathering to cook and eat together. You'll find great local seafood at places like Billy's Seafood, Blaylock's and Rouses Grocery Store. They'll even steam it for you. If you're more in the Farm to Table mood, check out Burris Farm Market at their new location for fresh produce and tasty desserts.

If you want to eat out, you'll find great local seafood at eateries ranging from fine dining at Fisher's at Orange Beach Marina, Jesse's Restaurant and Voyagers to kid-friendly and fun at Lulu's, The Hangout and Tacky Jack's. We definitely have some restaurants that are able to handle a big group, as well as some that will cater. Ask us for our recommendations!

Find Your Zen

It isn't all about the kids. If your Dream Spring Trip includes the words Spa, Massage, Beach Yoga, or Chef, you've come to the right place. There are some great options, many of which will come to you. Yes, you can have a chef, masseuse or yoga instructor at your beach house. Nice!
