Pink Pony Pub

You can’t miss this distinctly pink hangout spot. Located just off the main drag, this bar and restaurant has survived two hurricanes and is still going strong today. Pink Pony Pub features a rustic wooden deck overlooking the surf, offering stunning views of the beach as you enjoy fresh seafood and several cocktails, daiquiris, and frozen drinks from the bar. If you’re thinking of bringing the kids, that’s fine, but they will not be allowed in after 9 PM, so plan your visit accordingly.

Flora-Bama

Flora Bama Bar gulf Shores

While this spot is a roughly 20-minute drive from Downtown Gulf Shores, this state line favorite is one you won’t want to miss. The beach bar and lounge sits right on the line of Orange Beach and Perdido Key, Florida, and has been serving this community since 1964. Aside from delicious drinks like the Flora-Bama Bushwacker, the bar also has five stages for live music! Pick your choice of entertainment and kick back at this Gulf Coast favorite.

Big Beach Brewing

Beer nerds better take notes. Big Beach Brewing is the southernmost brewery in Alabama and one of the best bars in the area for those looking for a laid-back craft beer stop. Their 10-barrel brewing system keeps the focus on fresh, local beer, with up to 12 taps pouring IPAs, stouts, cream ales, and Belgian-style brews. Although this is a brewery, it's great for groups and families who want to unwind without committing to a full-on beach bar scene. Big Beach also serves shareable snacks from its Taproom Table Kitchen, as well as Pensacola-made Big Jerk Soda for anyone skipping the beer.

This spot lands on our list, but it’s technically more than just any other beachside bar. The Hangout sits where Highway 59 meets the beach and is built for anyone who wants their meal with a side of organized chaos. This spot offers a nice, open-air atmosphere with live music, beach access, games, and foam parties. The menu covers favorites like seafood boils, crispy calamari, and cocktails, making it an easy pick when your group needs food and drinks. While it’s not the quietest bar in Gulf Shores, it’s sure to be a highlight of the trip.

FAQs About Bars in Gulf Shores

Can you drink alcohol on the beach in Gulf Shores?

Alcohol is not allowed on Gulf Shores public beaches from March 1 through April 28. The city also prohibits glass or breakable containers on public beaches, so it’s best to enjoy drinks at nearby bars and restaurants instead of bringing them onto the sand.

What is the best bar in Gulf Shores for live music?

Flora-Bama and The Hangout are two of the best-known spots for live music near Gulf Shores. Flora-Bama is famous for its beach-bar atmosphere and frequent performances, while The Hangout offers a more family-friendly entertainment lineup with live music, events, and beachfront dining.

Are there family-friendly bars in Gulf Shores?

Yes. Several Gulf Shores bars and restaurants are family-friendly during the day, especially places like The Hangout and Big Beach Brewing. These spots offer food, outdoor seating, and a more relaxed atmosphere for groups with kids.

Are Gulf Shores bars walkable from the beach?

Some of the most popular Gulf Shores bars are close to the beach, especially near the main public beach area where Highway 59 meets Beach Boulevard. However, Gulf Shores is spread out, so visitors may still want to drive, use a ride-share service, or plan depending on where they’re staying.
